Orrery

The base is marked AST1055.1; the handle - AST1055.2 Complete fittings for planetarium, Tellurium and lunarium. Base: circular base standing on brass column and three legs. The top face is engraved with scales and the maker's signature. There are gears inside the base which were used to move the Tellurium and the lunarium, by turning the ivory tipped handle on the side of the base. The terrestrial globe is covered with a paper map, and is surrounded by a silver ringscale showing latitude, and by an 180 degree scale showing longitude. Gears show the annual movement of the earth. The lunarium has an ivory earth and Moon, with gears to move the moon around the Earth. The planetarium stands on a brass column attached to the base. The planets, in ivory, are mercury, Venus, Earth and Moon, Jupiter (and 4 satellites) , Saturn (with ring and 7 satellites) and Uranus (with brackets for 6 satellites)The brass Sun is alos used with the tellurium and the lunarium. Inscription engraved on surface of base.
