A half-length portrait of Richard Howe, Earl Howe (1726–1799) in admiral’s undress uniform, 1787–1795. This portrait was engraved by Robert Dunkarton after John Singleton Copley’s bust-length oil painting of around 1790, originally painted for display underneath his massive painting of the Siege of Gibraltar (Guildhall Art Gallery) when the latter work was exhibited in a purpose-built tent in Green Park in 1791. A version of this painting is now in the National Maritime Museum (see BHC2790). Dunkarton’s print was published by Copley himself on 10 September 1794.
