Second Class Library on the 'Olympic' (1911)

Interior of the passenger liner 'Olympic' (1911) showing the Second Class Library, on the Shelter Deck (C Deck); a view looking across to port. The bookcase at the forward end of the Library is at the right edge of the image.

The library was decorated with sycamore panelling and mahogany dado. The design of the interiors on the 'Olympic' was mainly the work of Aldam Heaton & Co, a practice founded by John Aldam Heaton (1828-97). Heaton established a partnership with Richard Norman Shaw and was part of William Morris’ circle. He also edited four volumes on 18th-century furniture.
