Stateroom on the 'Essequibo' (1914)

Cabin interior on the passenger/cargo liner 'Essequibo' (1914) showing a three berth stateroom, probably in Second Class accommodation. This is one of a tandem pair numbered 70 and 71 according to Bedford Lemere & Co daybooks. The narrow alleyway providing access to a porthole is in the far corner.

The principle of the 'tandem cabin' originated in the design of accommodation on a vessel owned by the Bibby Steamship Co Ltd; for this reason the term 'Bibby cabin' was also used.
