Silver plaque

Silver label used in the display case of Lord Nelson's undress coat (UNI0024), worn at the Battle of Trafalgar. Silver plaque inscribed: 'The COAT AND WAISTCOAT / WORN BY / ADMIRAL LORD NELSON / WHEN HE RECEIVED HIS MORTAL WOUND / AT THE / BATTLE OF TRAFALGAR. / PRESENTED TO GREENWICH HOSPITAL. BY / His Royal Highness Prince Albert / 1845.' With London hall marks, date letter for 1852/3 and maker's initials for Joseph Angell senior and Junior. Screws for attachment to wooden backing (now missing). The pattern is based on XXX2241, the similar display plaque for Nelson's Nile coat, which William IV (when Duke of Clarence) presented to the Naval Gallery in 1828.
