The Commission of HMS Sussex (1928)

This is a leather bound album, with a tie binding, containing 124 prints of various sizes.
The album contains a printed index (from which a few photographs are lacking in the album) which indicates that a number of prints were added after the original compilation. The photographs are mainly from 1929-31.

Contents: Photograph album relating to HMS Sussex (1928) 1930 – 1931. Included are shipboard scenes, King’s Birthday Review 1929, Naval Review Gibraltar 1930 and Admiral Sir F L Field bidding farewell to the Fleet in 1930. Places include general Mediterranean topography, Gibraltar, Malta, Greece, Jerusalem, Naples, Pompeii, Turkey, Spain, and Yugoslavia.

The album appears to have been compiled by Charles James Cleveland who was born 22 January 1903 and served as a shipwright on board HMS Sussex (1928) from 1929 – 1931. HMS Sussex was a London Class cruiser launched in 1928 – she served in the Mediterranean from 1929 until 1934.
