Medal cast
Two casts, obverse and reverse, of a commemorative medal. Obverse: Plan of Sluys. The crowned shield of Utrecht below. Legend: 'ORDIN TRAEC' (state of Utrecht). Legend: 'IEHOVA . PRIVS . DEDERAT.' Reverse: Plan of Ostend. Legend continued: 'PLVS . QVAM . PERDIDIMVS.' (God gave us in advance more than we lost). The capture of Sluys in 1604 was seen by the United Provinces as compensating for the loss of Ostend later the same year.
