Primesky

What’s happening above Britain tonight?

Welcome to Prime Sky, the Royal Observatory’s guide to the night skies. Prime Sky is a calendar that you can use online and from your mobile phone. Each day it points you towards the most interesting objects or events: star clusters, eclipses, comets, lunar phases and planetary movements.

You don’t need any equipment – just a clear sky and ten minutes to devote to the wonders of the universe. You don’t even have to visit every day. If you think you might miss something, we can remind you by email (free) or text (£1 for a full year).

Prime Sky events should be visible from anywhere within the UK, although times and observations apply to Greenwich in London. Beginners: our observing tips help you make sense of the skies.

Prime Sky is brought to you by the world-famous Royal Observatory, Greewich to complement the shows in our breathtaking new planetarium in London. If you would like to learn more about the universe and how centuries of painstaking observations have helped us understand it (or if you just fancy an exhilarating day out with the kids), visit the Royal Observatory, site of Europe’s first digital laser projector.
