Trim, the cat (KS1-2 literacy, geography)

Hard tack

Ship's Biscuit or Hard Tack

Ship's biscuit, or 'hard tack', was made from flour and a little water. The biscuits were stored in cloth sacks.

They easily became full of nasty insects called weevils. They were not very nice to eat! Sailors would tap the biscuits on a hard surface before eating them to get the weevils to leave!
