Mug
Lustre mug with moulded foot, transfer-printed in black and coloured in yellow, green, light blue and purple lustre. On one side, Jack Crawford (1775-1813) nailing the red ensign to the mast: 'Jack Crawford THE HERO OF Camperdown OCTR 11th 1797'. On the other side a view of a ship under full sail entitled 'Ship'. Crawford was a native of Sunderland and when the colours of the 'Venerable' were shot away, he went aloft and nailed them to the main topgallant mast using a pistol as a hammer.
