Scale: unknown. A contemporary full hull model of the royal paddle yacht ‘Black Eagle’ (1831). The hull is fully rigged with three masts with sails furled to the yards, and flying a number of flags including a jack on the bowsprit, the Royal Standard from the main, the white ensign and Rear Admiral’s flag from the mizzen. On deck are skylights, a signal canon, an open bridge between the paddle boxes and a tall stayed funnel. Although there does not appear to be a vessel of this name listed in the Royal Navy, there was a packet steamer of 540 tons that was built in 1831. It was not uncommon for members of the Royal Family to travel on vessels that were hired for a specific one-off journey.
